Hard Working Bees!

Heres a quick summary on The Bee Movie!
A recent college graduate, Barry B. Benson wants more out of life than the inevitable career that awaits him and every other worker in New Hive City–a job at Honex making honey. Barry jumps at the chance to venture out of the hive, and soon encounters a world beyond his wildest dreams. When Barry inadvertently meets a quirky florist named Vanessa, he breaks one of the cardinal rules of beedom–he talks to her. A friendship soon develops, and Barry gets a guided crash course in the ways of the human race. When he shockingly discovers that anyone can purchase honey right off the grocery store shelf, he realizes that his true calling is to stop this injustice and set the world right by suing the human race for stealing the bees’ precious honey.

After watching this cute and funny movie I decided I would do some research on Honey Bees. Here are some fun facts I thought I would share with you;

How do bees make honey?
It’s truly amazing if you think about it. Honey is made by a colony of honey bees living in a nest or in a hive if kept by a beekeeper. A typical bee hive will house about 60,000 bees, most of them workers, industriously making honey! A honeybee starts the honey making process by visiting a flower and gathering some of its nectar. They use their long, tubelike tongues like straws (called proboscis) to suck the nectar out of the flowers and they store it in their stomachs and carry it to the beehive. While inside the bee’s stomach for about half an hour, the nectar mixes with the proteins and enzymes produced by the bees, converting the nectar into honey.
All in all we really need to appreciated what the honey bees do for us! With out them we would not be able to enjoy the sweet sticky honey we all love. And for one bee to only be able to make 1 twelfth of a teaspoon of honey in its life we really should salute our bees! They continually work so hard to make honey!
